While the summer invites you to explore the world, hit the road and head over to Weil am Rhein for a visit of the stunning Vitra Campus and its architectural treasures.
Over the decades, the Swiss furniture manufacturer has worked with renowned designers and architects that have turned the site into an impressive ensemble of contemporary architecture where each building reflects its author’s aesthetic sense. A stroll into the massive campus is quite an experience!
Architecture enthusiasts can enjoy a 1-hour guided tour through the campus and thus, get captivating insights about Jean Prouvé’s structures as well as the buildings designed by Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Frank Gehry and Álvaro Siza, among others.
With its more than 7’000 pieces of furniture and 1’000 ones of lighting, the Vitra Design Museum owns one of the largest furniture collections worldwide. However, the collection is not on permanent display. The iconic pieces of the Swiss manufacturer are showcased in the imposing Schaudepot designed by Herzog & de Meuron, while the Vitra Design Museum, signed by Frank Gehry, presents temporary exhibitions since 1989.
Interior lovers will find inspiration in the beautifully styled VitraHaus where they will also learn all about the making of the brand’s classic Eames Lounge Chair.
“Take your pleasures seriously”, let’s take Charles Eames’ famous quote at its word.. Feast for the eyes and for the palate, enjoy a gourmet break at the Depot Deli that serves a variety of tasty delicacies daily and delicious brunch with regional specialties every Sunday.
To continue this inspirational tour, wander across the surrounding countryside, on the artful Rehberger Way that connects the Vitra Campus with the Beyeler Foundation. For the occasion, German artist Tobias Rehberger has created 24 surprising stops, to be discovered along the way.
